Yala business sector lauds B600m plant

Construction News

The business sector in Yala is throwing its support behind a planned privately-owned biomass power plant which will generate 9.9 megawatts of electricity for the border province.

The Federation of Thai Industries’ Yala province president Yoosin Jintapakorn yesterday said the 600 million baht plant located in Muang district would be environmentally friendly and pose no health hazards to the community.

Yala Green Energy, a privately-run company made up of local entrepreneurs, is the project owner. The company last week signed a loan contract with Krung Thai Bank to secure 318 million baht for the construction of the biomass power project which focuses on converting agricultural waste into fuel for electricity generating and selling it to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand’s grid.

It is hoped the added power will boost the economy in the lower South, which has been hit by the ongoing insurgency.
