Vietnam’s high-flying Xuan Thanh Cement lifts reliability to new heights with Konecranes as it expands to be the largest in the world
One of South-East Asia’s leading cement manufacturers, Xuan Thanh Cement, is deploying Konecranes durable CXT lifting equipment enhanced with TRUCONNECT® remote monitoring technology to optimize the safety, efficiency and reliability of its plant in Ha Nam province 100 km south of Hanoi.
Xuan Thanh Cement recently announced plans to establish the largest cement plant in the world in the province, featuring the most energy efficient equipment, state-of the art emission control and leading process control systems in an expanded plant with a 12500 TPD production capacity.
Konecranes has responded to Xuan Thanh’s expansion to meet expected growth in the Vietnamese cement market with an installation at Ha Nam of four installation and maintenance cranes of the globally proven CXT design in capacities of 6 – 35 tons, backed by Konecranes local and global service and training capabilities.
The cranes – serving key production technology in installations as high as more than 45 meters off the ground, or more than 12 stories high – lift tools and machinery to the top of plant including grinders and silos to help ensure uninterrupted production for Xuan Thanh in serving markets including roads, tunnels, ports and other industrial and commercial building and infrastructure.
CXT wire rope hoists are staple lifting devices used widely throughout the Asia-Pacific and globally in maintenance tasks, production lines, engineering and processing plants and industrial warehouses and factories. Their strength, compact size, speed, reliability and safety make them indispensable in production facilities where time is money and space is limited. Safety and reliability of CXT cranes can be further enhanced by TRUCONNECT® remote monitoring technology which provides self-diagnosis and usage data that enables users to optimise maintenance activities and visualise maintenance and application compliance.
Such safety and efficiency issues are particularly important in Xuan Thanh equipment accessed by the Konecranes, which provide servicing of rollers of grinders and filtration process technology and servicing of motors and gearboxes mounted atop silos used for bulk storage.
“We use the cranes frequently – sometimes every day,’ says Xuan Thanh Cement Manufacturing Vice Director Nguyen Quang Trung. “The big crane is important for lifting equipment for maintenance and repairs, for example, while the smaller cranes may be used to lift tools and machinery to the very top of the silo.
“The cranes are very important to the production process. Their safety is also a first priority, which is a reason why we choose Konecranes. We have used other cranes, but they were not so good. This time we considered a lot of cranes before making our choice.”
Other important factors included efficient use of space, ease of operation and provision of service backup (Konecranes is the world’s largest crane service organization, with more than 400,000 cranes of all makes under service contract worldwide and a permanent office in Vietnam).
CXT cranes are easy to operate, says Mr Nguyen, while Konecranes Vietnam office provides training and backup on advanced systems such as TRUCONNECT.
Konecranes Sales Manager Vietnam Huynh Thanh says durable technologies such as CXT are vital in demanding production environments such as cement production, while technologies such as TRUCONNECT also help ensure safety and longevity.
“We are happy to work as partners with customers such as Xuan Thanh, which is dedicated to world standards of efficiency and safety and to ensuring its staff members have access to world’s best practices and technologies such as those of Konecranes.”
TRUCONNECT® Remote Monitoring and Reporting is available for CXT® and SMARTON® lines of industrial cranes and TRUCONNECT® Remote Monitoring and Reporting with Safety Alerts is available for CXT cranes, says Konecranes, which is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of overhead cranes and hoists.
TRUCONNECT® Capabilities
Using TRUCONNECT® technology, cranes can sense their own performance, usage and condition, with sensor arrays providing feedback on key safety and operational aspects including:
Load; Position; Speed and Acceleration: Temperature of Components; Voltage; Current; Power; RPM; Vibration: Noise; Rope Angle; Structural Deflection; Stress; Ambient Temperature, Humidity and corrosives.
Maintenance activities are planned by actual cranes usage and condition, not by calendar, saving money by ensuring that the right amount of maintenance is done at the right time. Remote data monitoring for cranes provides information that tells users in advance when maintenance is needed and parts need to be changed. Repairs can be performed during inspection visits, which may save unexpected service calls and production interruptions.
CXT key features
Space efficiency – In an industry where floor space utilisation is difficult but vital, the compact design of the CXT allows them to operate closer to the walls, lift loads high and ultimately save valuable space. This enables businesses to optimise their valuable floor space.
Strength – Depending on the model, CXT can lift up to 80 metric tons. The new rope reeving system also extends the lifetime of the ropes by as much as 40% – having a significant impact on maintenance costs.
Safety – In an industrial setting, operators must be able to rely on the safe performance of the crane. Konecranes design, manufacture, and assemble all of the key components to ensure a quality wire rope hoist crane. High quality components and precise manufacturing based on years of experience enable enhanced durability of the hoist.
Konecranes’ product development has invested in speeding up and extending hoist operation cycles, and in crane safety and durability. Features that have resulted from this research and development include:
Speed – The latest CXT wire rope hoists are available with adaptive speed ranges which improve productivity and save energy consumption
Adaptive Speed Range (ASR) – a stepless hoisting movement control method. It allows very slow speeds which are important in moment of load lift-off and lowering. It also has the ability to lift up to 50% faster than traditional hoisting control. ASR is typically used in light to medium lifting.
Extended Speed Range (ESR) – this is an extension of the ASR that allows even slower speeds. ESR is typically used in heavy to very heavy lifting. When more performance is needed out of the hoist, ESR is the choice.
Positioning and area control – This feature is designed to assist the operator in positioning the load more efficiently and accurately. This allows the crane’s working area to be adapted to the varying physical layout of individual facilities and production lines.
