Under-construction bridge collapses in Trat, injuring 15 people
An under-construction bridge at Trat Provincial Administration Organisation (PAO) collapsed on Thursday evening (March 15), injuring 15 Thai and Cambodian workers.
The bridge links the One Tambon One Product (OTOP) exhibition centre and a convention hall which are in the compound of the Trat PAO in Muang district.
Trat Governor Prasert Luechatananond said of the 15 injured people, 11 were Thai workers and four were Cambodians. Three of them were in critical condition.
The incident happened at about 6 pm while workers were laying cement on the concrete pavement below the elevated path.
It collapsed and fell on several workers who were working on the ground and on the bridge.
Over 100 rescuers were mobilised to help search for workers trapped under the debris. The search continued late into the night with 15 workers were pulled out and rushed to Trat hospital.
Rescuers resumed the search Friday morning to ensure no workers being trapped underneath the construction debris.
The 5-metre wide and 215-metre long bridge with a U-turn spot was built to facilitate motorists visiting the OTOP centre.
At the construction cost of 13 million baht, the bridge construction started on Sept 30 last year and was scheduled to finish in 180 days.
