Transport Ministry and BMA to expand Saphan Taksin station to a double track to solve traffic congestion
The Ministry of Transport and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) have decided to expand the single-track Saphan Taksin station to a double track.
Transport Minister Arkhom Termphitthayaphaisit disclosed that the Department of Rural Roads will transform the single lane on Taksin Bridge into a dual lane and expand the platform of Saphan Taksin station. Saphan Taksin station will remain at the same place.
Scheduled to commence from 1 September 2017 onwards, the entire construction process is expected to take 27 months. It requires a budget of about one billion baht 1,000 million and it is expected to be completed in 2019.
Saphan Taksin station, currently capable of servicing 800,000 BTS passengers each day, will continue to operate while undergoing renovations. Passengers’ waiting time at the station will be further reduced once constructions are complete.
