Towers produced from Thailand mobile site
Construction firm Max Bögl has produced the first hybrid tower components from its new mobile factory.
The plant is a temporary structure with the necessary equipment required to produce the concrete and steel segments towers on location at wind power project site.
Max Bögl commenced transportation of 262 shipping containers from Germany to the 207MW Korat wind project in Huai Bong central Thailand in September.
The site hired 200 local workers plus 25 employees from Max Bögl’s office in Germany.
It can produce three towers a week, the German firm said, with all the towers for the 90-turbine site set to be completed by the end of the year.
“The stringent requirements placed on the product allow no room for error, so that experienced personnel and also specially instructed and trained personnel occupy all key positions in the mobile productions,” said project manager Ralph Dresel.
He added: “We took the climatic conditions into consideration in the early planning phase of the mobile prefabrication factory. In addition, measures have been taken in the concrete mixing plant to ensure correct processing of the high-performance concrete used and maintain the permissible fresh concrete temperature.”
Max Bögl claimed a mobile factory increases the value of the project to its local economy, with local jobs and sourcing materials from nearby.
“This has shown that innovative ideas and a pioneering spirit are important factors in the expansion of renewable energy sources,” said Max Bögl Wind managing director Josef Knitl.
