Thailand’s Thonburi Hospital Group (THG) said it expects to sign a memorandum of understanding with local firm Ga Mone Pwint to construct two hospitals in Myanmar.
Dr Boon Vanasin, owner of Thonburi Group, said THG will invest $ 100 million and expects to take a 40 per cent stake in the hospitals, while the local partner will take 60 per cent, Thai media reported.
The construction of both hospitals will take a few years and the combined capacity will be 400 beds.
Dr Vanasin said Myanmar people rank as the leading number of foreign tourists visiting Thailand for medical treatment, ahead of people travelling from Europe and the Middle East.
In Myanmar, the company will focus on the middle and upper class as these segments are seen to grow strongest.
Dr Vanasin added that Myanmar’s hospital industry has grown by more than 10 per cent each year it has been measured and is expected to grow by 15 per cent this year.
