November 2 (SeeNews) – The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) of Thailand estimates that more than THB 36 billion (USD 1.01bn/EUR 915.5m) will be invested next year in the country’s solar sector following the upcoming 600-MW tender.
ERC director and spokesperson Viraphol Jirapraditkul told reporters today, as cited by Reuters, that around 1,200 entities are expected to apply for licences as part of the auction. Thai Solar Energy Pcl and Inter Far East Energy Corp have already submitted proposals to install 49 MW and 11 MW of solar power capacity, respectively.
The winners of solar contracts will be announced on December 24. They will be required to start commercial operations at their plants by September 2016, according to the ERC director.
Thailand has set a goal to increase its solar power capacity to 6 GW by 2036 from 1.57 GW in 2014. Next year, the government will hold another auction for 200 MW.
