The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand’s board Tuesday approved a plan to seek bids for THB17.23 billion ($561 million) worth of civil construction works for an extension to Bangkok’s elevated rail system.
The civil works for the 12.6-kilometer extension of the green line that will link a Bangkok suburb to the southeastern province of Samutprakarn will be divided into two contracts, Soithip Trisuddhi, a member of the MRTA board, told reporters.
The first contract worth THB14.79 billion, involving the construction of key infrastructure and seven stations, is scheduled to come up for bidding in June while terms and conditions of the second contract worth THB2.45 billion, involving the rail system, are currently under revision, she said.
The MRTA targets to select the winners and sign contracts for the deals between August and September this year, and start commercial operations of the extension by May 2016, she said.
