The company, a subsidiary of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), plans to develop the project with total capacity of 1,200 megawatts on 100 to 120 hectares, according to the province.

Prutichai Chonglertvanichkul, executive vice president of EGAT International, visited Binh Dinh last week and met the provincial chairman, asking for help to find a suitable site for the project, said an official of the province.

The Thai visitor told Binh Dinh Province Chairman Le Huu Loc that his company was experienced in managing and operating thermo-power plants in Thailand and was shifting its power investment to other regional countries, including Vietnam.

Chairman Loc at the meeting suggested two locations for the investor’s consideration for this project. One is in Nhon Hoi Economic Zone, adjacent to the existing Quy Nhon Port, and the other is in Phu Cat District.

Loc pledged to offer the best conditions for the investor to carry out this project.

Relating to Nhon Hoi Economic Zone, the provincial government has just directed the board of the zone to speed up the progress of tourism projects there.

The Economic Zone administration has been told to urge owners of tourism projects in the zone to accelerate construction, especially projects north of Thi Nai Bridge by Quoc Thang Company, and Trung Luong Tourism Site by My Tai Co.

Those investors who do not follow the requirements will face punitive sanctions from the provincial government, including the harsh measure to revoke their investment licenses.

In the first four months of this year, the authority of Nhon Hoi Economic Zone licensed only one project worth VND38 billion, taking to 33 the total number of projects so far with the combined investment capital of VND37.5 trillion.
