TAK, 22 Dec 2014, (NNT) – The Commerce Ministry will hasten the establishment of the special Mae Sod Border Economic Zone, in its bid to enhance trade and investment ties between Thailand and Myanmar in 2015.

Deputy Commerce Minister Apiradee Tantraporn paid a visit to the border area of Mae Sod in Tak Province on Friday, during which she discussed with the local government and the private sector on the preparation of the Ministry’s major event slated for the end of next month.

According to Ms. Apiradee, she will soon meet with her Burmese counterpart to discuss the issues of Thailand’s Mae Sod – Myanmar’s Myawaddy special economic zone, the establishment of a business council to facilitate trading between the two nations, and the construction of the route linking Mae Sod, Myawaddy, and Kawkarek ( กอกะเร็ก ) .

The construction, expected to be completed in July 2015, will boost Thai-Burmese border trade from 60 billion baht to more than 100 billion baht, pushing the 2015’s border trade value to 1.5 trillion baht, and export growth to 4% as projected by the Thai government, said Ms Apiradee.
