Siemens Energy secures a historical deal with Thai customer for the first order of 62MW rated SGT-800 in Asia-Pacific

Siemens Energy is contributing to Thailand’s greener energy supply via a 98MW (combined cycle power plant (CCPP) of Nexif Ratch Energy Rayong Co., Ltd. (NRER) in Rayong, which is part of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and a hub for Industrial estates located on the east coast of Thailand.

The plant supports a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). It will utilize the latest and most efficient combined cycle gas turbine technology available at this scale and contribute to the stability of Thailand’s national power grid.

The scope of Siemens’ delivery includes one 62MW (ISO rated) SGT-800 gas turbine – the very first of-its-kind in the Asia Pacific market, one 36MW SST-600 steam turbine and one SGen5-100A-2P air-cooled generator along with associated engineering services to provide overall plant gross mass and energy balances and associated guarantees. This combination of turbines’ supply has helped to meet requirements underlined in the PPA.

The order demonstrates the trust and acceptance of NRER and the Thai market with the efficiency and reliability of the SGT-800 turbines. After entering the Thai Small Power Producer (SPP) market in Thailand in 2010 with the 47.5MW rated engine, Siemens have already successfully delivered 50.5MW, 53MW, 54MW & 57MW engines for customers there. The SPP is regarded as one of the most successful national programs to support the development of distributed generation / cogeneration plants across the country. Now with this latest order, the total number of SGT-800 sold in Thailand has exceeded 90 units, which makes the SGT-800 fleet in Thailand one of the largest in the world.

“We are pleased to win this important project which comes despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The NRER project will be among the most efficient industrial combined cycle projects of its kind in Thailand, providing clean and reliable power generation to EGAT,” said Andreas Pistauer, Head of Siemens Generation New Projects for Siemens Energy Asia Pacific Hub.

Surender Singh, Chairman, Nexif Ratch Energy added, “We are pleased to join hands with Siemens Energy for the construction & operations of our Rayong project and look forward to its completion on schedule. As one of leading energy equipment suppliers we are delighted to work with Siemens Energy.”
