Seli breaks through tunnel at Laos’ 410-MW Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydroelectric plant
Italian firm Seli Overseas has reached a significant milestone at Laos’ 410-MW Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydroelectric plant with the completion of the project’s headrace tunnel.
The tunnel is 11.4 kilometers long and 5.84 meters in diameter, Seli said, and completed three months ahead of the budgeted timeframe.
The US$1.02 billion Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy project is located on the Xe Kong River in Laos’ Bolaven plateau. Construction began in February 2013 and is expected to be completed in 2019.
The project is being developed by the Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy Power Company (PNPC). PNPC is a joint-venture formed in March 2012 by SK Engineering and Construction (SK E&C), Korea Western Power (KOWEPO), Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding (RATCH), and Lao Holding State Enterprise (LHSE).
SK E&C holds 24% stake in PNPC, LHSE 26%, and RATCH and KOWEPO each own a 25% share in the project.
