Section 44 invoked to speed up construction of Bangkok’s Taopoon-Bang Sue train connection
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha has invoked Section 44 of the interim constitution to order the one-kilometre connection between the Purple and Blue lines from Bang Sue terminal to Taopoon terminal.
The underground train terminal at Bang Sue (Blue Line) is not connected with the Purple Line terminal at Taopoon leaving a gap of about one kilometer long, making in inconvenient for commuters of the underground train to connect with the Purple Line to travel to Bang Yai, the destination of the line.
As a temporary measure to ease the inconvenience, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority and the City Administration have arranged for a free shuttle bus service between the two terminals for commuters.
The use of the special power which was endorsed by the National Council for Peace and Order was meant to cut through all bureaucratic redtape and to speed up the construction of the connection so that it could become operational next year.
Section 44 was also invoked to set the standards for the registration of a backlog of over 1,000 items of herbs which have the potential to be developed into herbal medicines.
