Proposed station is located between the Talad Plu and Klong Ton Sai stations

The Department of Rail Transport has heeded a call by Facebook users for a new railway station to be built in Bangkok to allow passengers to more conveniently connect to the BTS Skytrain service.
Sarawut Songwilai, the department’s director general, said he would submit a letter to the transport minister this week to ask him to consider the Wutthakart railway station project that could be built with a budget of Bt1 million and completed in three months.
A Facebook user posted a suggestion that a new railway station should be built along the Wong Wien Yai-Mahachai route in the Wutthakart area where the railway intersects with the BTS so that passengers can more conveniently switch to the faster Skytrain service. The suggestion was widely shared and caught the attention of the department, Sarawut said.
He said the proposed station is located between the Talad Plu and Klong Ton Sai stations.
Sarawut added officials from his department had conducted a survey of the spot with SRT officials and the location was considered appropriate for building a new small station.
He said the addition of one more station to the route would increase travel duration on the route by only two minutes but would provide much greater convenience for people living in outer Bangkok. If approved, the new station will be just 150 metres from the BTS Wutthakart station, he added.
The new station will commence service as a train stop only with no ticket booth. If it proved popular, it would be upgraded to a full station service, he said.
