New Expressway boss promises action tackle delays involving the Rama III Road-Dao Khanong-Western Outer Ring Road Expressway project
Surachet Laophulsuk on Monday signed a contract to head the Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat) with a promise to tackle delays involving the Rama III Road-Dao Khanong-Western Outer Ring Road Expressway project.
Speaking after becoming the new Exat governor, Mr Surachet said he would look into problems relating to the expressway project designed to alleviate traffic congestion on Rama II Road and Chalerm Mahanakhon Expressway’s Bangkhlo-Dao Khanong section.
A delay in the signing of two contracts has been blamed as the Exat board has not yet concluded the results of the bidding.
One of the contracts involves the construction of a 6.4km elevated road linking Bang Khun Tian and Central Rama II and the other involves the construction of a 5km elevated road linking Bang Pakok Hospital and Dao Khanong.
Mr Surachet said he would also hold talks with Kasetsart University to iron out differences concerning Exat’s plan to build N1, a section of the third-phase expressway from Bang Yai intersection in western Bangkok to Kasetsart intersection.
The university was opposed to the project out of concerns about the impact of a ramp structure on its campus buildings.
Mr Surachet also said he would move ahead with the plan to uninstall tollgate barriers on the expressway system to alleviate traffic congestion, assuring that the agency had no plans to lay off the employees.
“There are several issues that we’re not on the same page about, but I’ll try my best to make Exat a leading state enterprise. I need three months to make adjustments though,” he said.
Exat board chairman Surong Bulakul expressed confidence in Mr Surachet’s calibre.
“I believe that his experience in civil engineering and his understanding of state enterprises will enable him to implement the policy and deliver efficient services to the public,” he said.
