Nakhon Pathom-Hua Hin railway project to use extradosed double-track railway bridge over Ratchaburi province’s Mae Klong River

An extradosed double-track railway bridge will be built across the Mae Klong River in Ratchaburi province.

The “extradose” model will combine a balanced cantilever with tension cables 340 metres long, crossing a 160-metre wide section of the river without the use of columns.

An old model was to be used for the bridge, but the design changed when World War II-era bombs were discovered in the river, which posed a potential threat to engineers.

A source said the bombs will be removed in the future.

Wisa Poonsirirat, Ratchaburi deputy governor; Lt Gen Anusorn Panyaboon, director of the Engineer Department; and Danuch Yontararak, managing director of AS Associated Engineering, led a ceremony to kick off the bridge’s construction on Wednesday.
