IHI Corporation, in consortium with POSCO Engineering Company (PEN) has been awarded an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract for an LNG receiving terminal expansion project in Thailand.
Terminal expansion
PTT LNG Company (PTTLNG), a subsidiary of PTT Public Company (PTT), awarded the contract for the project, which involves the expansion of the LNG receiving terminal in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Rayong Province, Thailand.
IHI and PEN will carry out the EPC services for the LNG receiving terminal, including the construction of two 160 000 m3 LNG storage tanks and regasification facilities with a capacity of 5 million tpa. The project is due to be completed in 2017.
LNG in Thailand
This is IHI’s first project involving the construction of an LNG receiving terminal in Thailand. The company’s experience in Asia includes four LNG storage tanks for Dahej LNG Terminal and two LNG storage tanks for Kochi LNG Terminal, both for Petronet LNG in India.
IHI has also recently been awarded two EPC contracts for two LNG storage tanks in India, one by GSPC LNG in September 2013 and the other by Petronet LNG in December 2013.
