Hanoi airport undergoes improvements
Noi Bai International Airport’s domestic terminal (T1) will be upgraded to increase its passenger traffic capacity and ease congestion.
The project will start 11 July and take eight months to complete.
Local media reported the project will cost nearly VND244 billion (USD10.73 million), including redecorating, upgrading the electricity system, and opening more bus gates.
Once open it will ease congestion as passenger traffic increases to 15 million by 2018.
Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport early and read the direction signboards as some areas of the terminal will be closed, while work is being carried out.
The facility was opened in October 2001 with a maximum capacity of 6 million passengers per year.
After an extension in 2013, the capacity ceiling lifted to 9 million, but at that time the terminal was already handling 12.8 million arrivals annually, the report said.
