Germany’s MAN PrimeServ signs service agreement for Cambodia’s giant power plant
MAN PrimeServ, the after-sales brand of German-based MAN Energy Solutions SE, on Thursday said it has signed a five-year service agreement for a 200MW power plant in Kandal province’s Lvea Em district.
The plant is one of two main generators comprising a 400MW heavy fuel oil power facility.
The other plant will be powered by a 200MW generator from Helsinki-listed Wartsila Oyj Abp and built by China Gezhouba Group Corp subsidiary CGGC-UN Power Co Ltd.
Breaking ground in October last year, the $380 million facility is located on 43ha in Koh Reah commune’s Koh Reah Krom village.
There are also plans to build a substation and connect the facility to the national grid via a 230kV high-voltage transmission line.
MAN Energy Solutions said the contract was signed with local operations and maintenance firm SchneiTec Co Ltd, which is responsible for the C7 power plant that is owned by state-run energy utility Electricite du Cambodge (EdC).
It added that it built the plant, and that it is powered by “11 × MAN 18V51/60DF engines”.
“The five-year agreement covers the supply of OEM [original equipment manufacturer] spare parts, specialist services and digital solutions, all aimed at improving the power-plant’s uptime to ensure a reliable energy supply for Phnom Penh.
“MAN PrimeServ will partner with SchneiTec to ensure the efficient planning of maintenance services during the plant’s lifecycle,” MAN Energy Solutions said.
SchneiTec general manager Tann Tourthang said: “MAN PrimeServ convinced us with its maintenance solution that focuses on a collaborative approach to enable forward-thinking maintenance planning and cost-certainty.
“We were also impressed by MAN’s unmatched service-infrastructure, including its network of service centres with trained specialists spread throughout the Asia-Pacific.”
MAN Energy Solutions said the accord was negotiated by PrimeServ O&M, which it said is “responsible within MAN PrimeServ for long-term service agreements, plant operation and maintenance”.
PrimeServ O&M vice-president and head Dr Michael Filous said his division is committed to work with SchneiTec and ensure efficient maintenance of the plant.
“We are also grateful to have the opportunity to secure a reliable power supply for the people of Phnom Penh. EdC’s C7 power plant is another important reference in our growing portfolio of power plants under service contracts,” he said.
MAN Energy Solutions added: “SchneiTec and EdC will benefit from MAN’s digital-service solution – PrimeServ Assist – which strongly supports the efficient operation of power plants.
“Engine operation will be remotely monitored 24/7 by dedicated service experts, with the customer notified immediately in the event of critical deviations in engine performance.
“As its database continues to grow, PrimeServ Assist’s ability to act as an early warning system and optimise uptime increases. Past references for the digital service have showcased its ability to avoid stoppages through the early analysis of performance trends,” it said.
Victor Jona, director-general of the Ministry of Mines and Energy’s General Department of Energy, confirmed the validity of the agreement.
