German consortium to develop 200MW in Thailand

Construction News

Investment group Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft (DEG) and two other German companies have announced plans to develop 200MW of wind projects in Thailand.

State-owned DEG, wind developer Energiequelle and consultant Geo-Net Umweltconsulting have established project development company WIP. They each hold a one-third share.

The group aims to develop at least 200MW in Central Thailand. DEG will provide the funding for the projects.

The Thai government aims to derive 20% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020.

In August, GE won a contract from German developer Pro Ventum to supply 90MW to the Thep Sathit wind farm to the north of Bangkok. It will supply 36 2.5MW turbines.
