Construction News

Just two weeks ago, we were stunned to hear that Four Seasons would be leaving Bangkok (pictured above), to be replaced by a flagship Anantara resort. But we also had a feeling this wasn’t the end of the road for FS in Bangkok. In fact, here’s exactly what we said:

As much as this means a departure for Four Seasons from Bangkok, there is no doubt in our mind that the Canadian group will come back to a city where nearly every luxury brand under the sun is either represented or busy building something new – something tells us it will be connected to this: Four Seasons Private Residences Bangkok at Chao Phraya River, a new development a bit south of the Mandarin Oriental and Peninsula. Time will tell, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

And now we’re keeping you posted.

Four Seasons Hotels have just announced that they will open the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River, adjacent to the aforementioned Four Seasons Private Residences Bangkok at Chao Phraya River.

The Four Seasons resort, being built in conjunction with Country Group Development, will have 300 rooms and suites. Both the hotel and the residences will be situated on the longest waterfront promenade in Bangkok, putting it just down the river from the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and The Peninsula. With the arrival of this new Four Seasons, our luxury hotel expert, JasonD, believes Bangkok will truly be “one of the best luxury hotel cities in the world for value.”

Meanwhile, down in Florida, work is steadily progressing on another ultra-glam Four Seasons Resort–The Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club, a former private members club in Miami.

A tipster, Mr. D, sent in these construction shots taken in early December.

When the property opens in in early 2016, the historic structure will have 80 hotel rooms surrounded by two, 12-story towers designed by award-winning architect Richard Meier which will have 150 Four Seasons private residences and penthouse apartments.

Here’s how the property should look when finished:

Yup, we’re thinking exactly what you’re thinking–that early 2016 ain’t happening. But we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
