The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has introduced the first ever waste-to-energy plant in the capital, which uses garbage to produce up to five megawatts per day.
Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, who presided over the opening ceremony of the plant, said as much as 500 tons of trash will be turned into electricity.
The plant is located in Nong Khaem district and has a minimum capacity of five megawatts. Bangkok will be able to create alternative energy from household waste that would normally be buried underground.
An environmental impact assessment will be conducted to ensure that plant operations are safe for the environment. The Bangkok Governor hopes the new energy plant will promote better living for Bangkok residents.
