Egat to build new power plants on old sites
The Electricity Generating Authority of
Ratanapong Jongdamgerng, Egat’s deputy governor for transmission systems, said yesterday that the Energy Ministry had been consulted on the plan to expand power capacity.
According to the plan, when the old plants are decommissioned, Egat will dismantle them and build new ones on top of them. This will avoid the cost of acquiring property and eliminate the need to win over surrounding neighbourhoods.
As part of the country’s power-development plan for 2010-30, old plants, most of them Egat’s, with combined capacity of 17.67 gigawatts, will be shut down.
