September 3 (SeeNews) – Germany-based downstream solar firm Conergy said on Thursday it has inked a deal with Thai power producer B Grimm Power Ltd to build an 8-MWp solar park in the latter’s home country.
The project involves installing a total of 25,800 solar modules at a site in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province to generate over 12,000 MWh of electricity per year and thus power over 5,300 households.
Conergy said it will initiate the engineering and component supply work shortly. The mechanical completion of the projects is scheduled for December 2015. The German firm will cooperate with local partner Ensys Group for the on-ground construction.
“With abundant year-round sunshine and also the availability of highly suitable sites for solar power plants, Thailand is leading the way in ASEAN in terms of increasing its capacity to produce energy from renewable sources,” said Alexander Lenz, Conergy’s president for Asia & the Middle East.
Thailand aims to meet 20% of its energy needs using renewable energy sources by 2036. To date, Conergy has deployed over 100 MW of solar power capacity in the Asian country.
