A Chinese EPC that builds solar farms, glass factories and cement-making plants has signed a contract to supply Myanmar’s first solar power plant.
The 220-megawatt plant in Minbu, Mynamar, will be the largest solar energy facility of its kind in Southeast Asia, according to an Aug. 5 announcement by China Triumph International Engineering Group Co. (CTIEC), a division of the state conglomerate China National Building Materials Co.
CTIEC was picked as the general contractor for the four-phase project, working under Thailand’s Green Earth Power and the Myanmar Ministry of Electric Power.
On the sidelines of the contract signing, CTIEC said, officials from the company and the Myanmar government discussed future “cooperation in fields such as new energy, new housing and new building materials.”
CTIEC in recent years has completed solar plant projects in Thailand, Japan, Italy and Britain. It was the EPC behind the construction of six solar farms in England, for example, including the 60-megawatt Swindon facility and the 72-megawatt Shotwick plant.
