CB&I wins contract for PTTGC’s ethylene plant in Map Ta Phut, Rayong
CB&I has won a contract worth more than $95m from Samsung Engineering (Thailand) for a brownfield ethylene plant at PTT Global Chemical’s (PTTGC) petrochemicals complex in Map Ta Phut, Rayong.
Under the contract, CB&I will be responsible for the licence and basic engineering of the ethylene plant and pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation unit.
The scope of the work also includes detailed engineering and material supply of short residence time (SRT) pyrolysis heaters.
Last month, Samsung Engineering secured an $820m contract from PTTGC for the Olefins Reconfiguration Project (ORP) in Map Ta Phut.
On a engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) mope, the company will execute the project with CB&I as licensor.
CB&I technology executive vice-president Daniel McCarthy said: “CB&I looks forward to providing the technology licence and heater supply to this ethylene plant in Thailand.
“This award is the third CB&I licensed ethylene plant for PTTGC and further expands our presence in Asia.”

The new plant will tap the latest generation ethylene technology from CB&I to produce polymer-grade ethylene, propylene, and other by-products.
The plant’s rated capacity to produce ethylene through the major Naphtha Cracker unit and propylene per annum will be 500,000mt and 250,000mt respectively.
The ORP plant is expected to be complete by the end of 2020.
Samsung Engineering completed nine ethylene plants across the globe and ORP will be the tenth ethylene plant in total and the 23rd project it will deliver to Thailand.
