The Cabinet has approved a bill concerning the expropriation of land for the construction of the Purple Line electric train project and will now submit the bill to the National Legislative Assembly for approval.
The land expropriation bill was proposed by the Ministry of Transport and approved by the Cabinet in its meeting today. Government Spokesperson Captain Yongyuth Maiyalap announced that the bill calls for the expropriation of 69 plots of land within Bang Bua Thong, Bang Yai and Mueang districts of Nonthaburi province as well as Bang Sue district of Bangkok. The acquired land will be used for the construction of the Bang Yai-Bang Sue section of the Purple Line electric train system.
The bill requires owners of the 69 land plots to surrender their property to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, which is in charge of the electric train project. The agency must make use of the land within 10 years.
Following the Cabinet’s approval, the bill will be submitted to the Council of State for review before being forwarded to the National Legislative Assembly in order for it to be deliberated and enacted into law.
