Conergy Group, a leading producer of solar cells, expects sales volume in Thailand to more than double to 40 megawatts next year from 17.8 MW now.
“Thailand has potential for solar farm business over the next several years, and the government is also planning to introduce home-roof solar panels for the household sector,” said Alexander Lenz, president for Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
The recent decision by the government to promote renewable energy is also providing a baseline of support to the solar industry, he said.
The new plan calls for renewable energy to account for 25% of the country’s consumption by 2022, up from a previous target of 20.4%. Solar power would increase to 2,000 MW from the previous target of 500 MW.
