Bangkok awards contracts for Skytrain extension

MASS Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) awarded four contracts worth a total of Baht 28.8bn ($US 888m) on April 3 for construction of the 19.5km northern extension of the BTS Skytrain Sukhumvit Line from Mor Chit to Saphan Mai and Khu Kot.

Italian-Thai Development has been awarded a contract worth Baht 15.3bn to carry out civil works on the 12km Mor Chit – Saphan Mai section.

A joint venture of Unique Engineering and Construction, Sinohydro Corporation, and China Habour Engineering, has been appointed by MRTA to construct the 7.5km Saphan Mai – Khu Kot section in a deal worth Baht 6.7bn.

STEC, a joint venture of Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction and A.S. Associate Engineering, has received a Baht 4bn contract to construct a depot for the extension, together with a Baht 2.8bn contract to design and install trackwork.

Construction will begin in June and the 16-station extension is due to open in 2020.
