The Central Administrative Court on Wednesday rejected a petition from a former natural resources and environment minister and six other people for a retrial of a court case in which the state was ordered to pay 9.6 billion baht in compensation to NVPSKG consortium for the cancellation of the Klong Dan waste water treatment plant in Samut Prakan.
Former minister Praphat Panyachartrak and six associates the petition for the retrial of the case claiming that, in their capacity as officials of the Pullution Control Department, they might be ordered to pay compensation to the department to cover the compensation paid to the consortium.
The Central Administrative Court however ruled that Mr Praphat and the six associates were not the injured party in the case and were not affected by the order of the Supreme Administrative Court for the state to pay NVPSKG consortium.
The fact that they were summoned to give testimonies to the investigating panel did not mean that they had been affected, said the court, adding that there was no justification for a retrial of the case.
Former deputy interior minister Vatana Asavahame was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of corruption in connection with the sale of land for Klong Dan project by the Supreme Court’s criminal division for political office holders. But he escaped out of the country before the reading of the verdict.
