Thailand was named the top destination in Asia in the recent Destination Index Survey by DMC Pacific World.
China and India round out the top three in the December 2015 edition of the monthly survey that measures the number of event enquiries rather than the number of events taking place.
Pacific World’s country manager Thailand, Bert Chamrernnusit, says: “Thailand closed 2015 with double-digit grwoth in business event traveller numbers and earnings driven by stellar performance from the European markets.
“Promotional campaigns form the Thailand Convention Bureau continue to catalyse the market by offering attractive benefits for delegates and meeting planners.”
Interest in India and China continues to gain momentum as the two destinations are repeatedly listed amid Asia’s top three business event destinations, as referenced in Pacific World’s November 2015 and October 2015 reports.
Despite recent criticisms of India’s overall approach to business events, Pacific World’s country manager in India, Naveen Rizvi, says a number of high-profile sporting events and festivals are attracting interest from event planners.
“Cultural and sporting events are driving more interest in India: Holi, festival of colours, and the ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2016 will both take place in March. The Twenty20 international cricket event will showcase eight magic cities of India: Bangalore, Chennai, Dharamshala, Kolkata, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur, and New Delhi.”
