Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) is reviewing its terms of reference (ToR) for the second phase of the Suvarnabhumi airport upgrade.
Chairman Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said on Friday the AoT has been going over details in the ToR draft.
Mr Nitinai said the ToR will be proposed to the National Council for Peace and Order’s Committee on Public Budget Expenditures for its approval by next month.
The bidding process is set to be take place in November or December this year. The second phase of the airport development is worth around 56.5 billion baht.
According to Mr Nitinai, the second-phase development will be divided into three sections.
The first involves an upgrade to the airport’s infrastructure, including 28 parking bays.
The second will cover construction of aerobridges and extra check-in counters, while the airport’s utilities development falls under the third section.
Contractors will be chosen by February so that construction can begin in March. The second-phase development is expected to be completed in 2019.
Mr Nitinai said the AoT is adjusting its master development plan to match with the investment plans for Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports.
A second passenger terminal at Suvarnabhumi, worth 27 billion baht, will be incorporated into the adjusted plan to accommodate up to 80 million travellers a year, up from the current rate of 60 million.
The project to build a third runway at Suvarnabhumi is awaiting an environmental health impact assessment. If approved, the construction of the runway and new terminal will begin next year simultaneously. Both are expected to be finished by 2020.
The additional runway will cost 20.3 billion baht and enable the airport to serve up to 94 flights per hour, up from the current maximum of 68 flights.
