BANGKOK, 21 July 2014 (NNT) -The Permanent Secretary for Transport has estimated that the Bangkok Bus Terminal can be moved from the current location in Paholyothin district by 2017, to free up space for the construction of the SRT Red Line suburban railway system from Bang Sue to Rangsit.
Soithip Traisuth, permanent secretary for Transport, admitted that Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) and the Transport Co. Ltd., which operates the Bangkok Bus Terminal Mo Chit, are unlikely to be able to move from the Paholyothin district by 2015 as planned. There is an accepted imperative to return the occupied land to its owner, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to build the SRT Red Line from Bang Sue to Rangsit. However the relocation project still needs to be approved. Meanwhile, the relevant organizations have estimated that the Bus Terminal relocation can be accomplished by 2017. Moreover, the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and the Planning and Traffic Police will ease disruption during the relocation, especially on important holidays such as New Year and Songkran Festival.
According to Wuttichai Kullayanimit President of the Transport Co. Ltd., the Bangkok Bus Terminal relocation plan is being considered for approval by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). Initially, the four areas being considered as possible new locations of the terminal are Muang Thong Thani, Rangsit and both inbound and outbound Don Muang.
