The iconic Iconsiam has won the best story design award by the World Retail Congress this year.
Judges at the meeting in Amsterdam awarded Thailand’s largest shopping centre the Best Store Design of the Year.
Iconsiam competed with five other stores for the winner. They were FAO Schawarz in New York, Levi Strauss & Co’s Times Square flagship store also in New York, Nicosia Mall in the capital city of Cyprus, Shinsegae Duty Free at Incheon airport in South Korea and YJY MAIKE Centre flagship store.
They ran in the category of the store design with space more than 1,200 square metres.
Iconsiam was a project that represented the perfect combination of retail, residential and entertainment formats, the organisers said in a statement.
Iconsiam’s architectural design was developed by Urban Architects Co. The mall on a 55-rai plot by the Chao Phraya River opened in November last year.
The 54-billion-baht project is a joint venture between Siam Piwat Co, Magnolia Quality Development Corporation and Charoen Pokphand Group.
“The success of Iconsiam is the result of a great collaboration of creative talent at the national level,” said Chadatip Chutrakul, chief executive officer of Siam Piwat. “We are deeply grateful to the many Thais involved with the project from around the country, in the private sector, the government sector, as well as artists and experts in a myriad of different fields.”
