70 million baht to be spent on adviser/designer team for Pattaya’s state of the art tram project
Pattaya Watchdog reported on Thursday that Pattaya City Hall is planning on spending 70 million baht in advisory and design work on the proposed tram project that is set to transform the popular resort.
This comes after reports earlier in the week suggested that two companies were in line for the tender to build the city’s light train (tram) network.
They have also scotched suggestions of an elevated train saying the plan is for one at ground level.
Pattaya Watchdog also showed what such a tram might look like and suggested proposed routes.
They said that initially the Red Line would not connect with the high speed three airport line (Don Muang – Suvarnabhumi – U-Tapao – that will pass near Pattaya.
But nothing is sure yet, that is the only certainty.
They suggested that 8 billion baht will be spent on the Red Line that would run in a loop from South Pattaya pier.
It would take in stops on Sukhumvit Road, North Pattaya, City Hall, Terminal 21, Central, and Royal Garden.
A Blue line that will be longer and cost 12 billion baht is still in the offing.
Billions more will be spent on environmental impact assessments.
Pattaya Watchdog dismissed suggestions that the tram will be an elevated or monorail network.
They suggested that the plan will be to use existing roads.
The trams are part of huge Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) budgets to develop Pattaya and other areas of the Eastern Seaboard.
If given the go-ahead the new rail network is set to transform Pattaya and further enhance the resort’s standing as a world class destination for both domestic and international tourism.
